Just having fun

I often tell my clients just to have fun with their dogs. You don't have to do anything up to Crufts standard - it's all about having fun. Often dogs feel under pressure to perform, but if I ask them to stick some music on and just have fun with their dog, everyone relaxes. The owner then is surprised how much their dog enjoys the contact time with them. And why not film yourself? You will be able to see many things you will not be aware of as you are working with your dog. For example, Joy is much happier working on my left-hand side than on the right-hand side—something I need to practise.
