Dasher Starts School

Dasher is now 4 months old, so this week, Dasher went to his first Dog Training Class. I have joined a class that is aimed mainly at obedience competitors. I was greeted warmly, but Dasher was rather overexcited and felt that everyone needed watering. Submissive urination is not unusual, but with confidence-building games, I know he will eventually grow out of this rather embarrassing behaviour. If your dog suffers from the same problems, I highly recommend you watch Susan Garrett’s video, which discusses how to build a dog’s confidence, making it less likely to feel the need to adopt this appeasing behaviour.

As for Dash, we decided he was rather overwhelmed, so the best strategy was to take things slowly, play, and let him take everything in so I could build his confidence before starting formal training. Training is all about having a good relationship, and if your dog, like Dasher, is out of their brain with excitement, then the best thing to do is work on building a connection between both you and your dog.
