Recall with Distractions

There are lots of games you can play with your dog so that they want to stay close to you. I love to play games that encourage my dogs to run back to me no matter the distractions. We want our dogs to ignore what is in the environment and focus on us. If they see the value in staying close, we will not have a dog that rushes off as soon as we let them off a lead. I would drop the leash or put a puppy on a long line so the temptation is not there to rush off and explore. Then playing the game of throwing a treat away from you and then coming back and getting the prize of the delicious treat will add value to staying by your side. Try it and see.
